2010 Trail Builder of the Month Awards
The votes are in and the first trailbuilder of the month winner is.....
Dave Marshall!
Dave has been a cornerstone of the downhill scene for many years. He is a positive vibe on the cycling community in general and most importantly he builds awesome trails!
Dave resides in the Annapolis Valley and has worked on P2, Gorge, Ward Mountain and of course created last years downhill race course in the valley. His dedication to the sport is undeniable. He's already been out working on trails this year while there was snow on the ground.
Dave also organizes races in the Valley on the courses he builds. If you ever get the invite to ride any of Dave's trails, take it! You will not be disappointed. What he has been able to do to create technically challenging, sustainable trails is commendable.
Congrats to Dave (Biff) Marshall on receiving the first Trailbuilder of the Month Award for 2010!
Thanks everybody!!!!!! This is going to be a great year. We have a great group of individuals in the Valley that share my enthusiasm for riding bikes and making/sustaining trails: Ryan, Colin, Jim and Jason. Anybody who wants a tour of the area can just shoot me a PM.....we have everything: XC, freeride and DH.
Cheers
Good job man, well earned and deserved.
Good Work!!!
Remember to nominate you local trailbuilder for the chance to win a One-Shot Shovel by Trailblazer.
We have a few in the running for April but I'd like to see some of the great trailbuilders who have not been mentioned yet for this year!

April’s Trailbuilder of the month award goes to……Dwayne Beaumont!
Although many in Nova Scotia may not know the name we all owe him a debt of gratitude for his work in Hillsborough New Brunswick.
Dwayne and a few of his close friends would work at night (once the kids were asleep) on the trails in Hillsborough often with headlamps. They would build and maintain many of the popular trails used by casual riders to weekend warriors to those used in past races.
Dwayne has been key in organizing the Hillsborough Mountain Bike Association overseeing the maintenance and additions of any new or existing trails. Dwayne realized someone had to rise above the controversy and do something to help keep the beautiful trails in Hillsborough open to mountain bikers.
He has already spearheaded one trail day this year and I’m sure there will be plenty more in the future.
You may not see him when you’re riding on the trails in Hillsborough but you will see his hard work right underneath your tires as you enjoy the seemingly endless trails.
Congrats to Dwayne and thank you for all your hard work you put into the preservation of an amazing trail system that is a must for everyone to ride!

Thanks.
It's been great to get an early start to the biking season and a jump on the trail maintenance. The HMBA has a great bunch of members and we hope to accomplish a lot over the next few months.
I hope everyone gets a chance to come and enjoy our trails like we do.
I apologize for the delay but here is May's Trailbuilder of the month winner:
Tom Kavanagh!!!
Tommy has risen above and beyond the call of duty to build, maintain and preserve trails in Nova Scotia.
Tom has been involved in mountain biking in many ways over many years. Tom is a rider, trail builder, organizer, former shop manager, bike mechanic, former shop owner, Bicycle Nova Scotias’ Trail Consultant, and Nova Scotia Mountain Bike Trail Association’s President. That’s a lot of hats for one person to wear or have worn.
The trail building award is for more than just trail building. It’s also about giving back to the community and encouraging others to participate and grow the cycling community.
Tom is one of the main forces behind the trails at Gore. He has also been instrumental in the upkeep of trails at Spider Lake and has worked on the Bedford Range trails. These are but a few of his many accomplishments.
Tom’s passion is trailbuilding. One conversation with him shows his dedication to the sport especially in building new trails and maintaining existing trails. His experience in picking the right lines, armouring wet sections or building bridges is undeniable.
Tom is genuinely an asset to Nova Scotia’s cycling community.
Congrats to Tom and thank you for all your hard work!
PS: Tom likes his beer so remember to make sure he is well hydrated!

Trail building season is upon us and I know there are a ton of worthy trail builders out there. Help me honour them by nominating your favourite trail builder.
