BNS Mountain Bike Committee to Investigate Race Courses

The Bicycle Nova Scotia Mountain Bike Committee's long vacant seat for Trails / Land Access Coordinator has been filled in 2010 by the very capable and knowledgable Tom "Tommyboy" Kavanagh.  Tom is a busy man in the local cycling scene and has been for many years.

Members Only: The new DH Trend for Ride Days

By now most of you have probably found the massive DH Racing in 2010 thread.  There is a lot of information packed in there, so I thought it prudent to point out some things that seem to be source to some confusion.

Cogeyed Groups

Lately I've been spending a lot of time surfing through Cogeyed's various groups.  In my travels, it's occurred to me that most of our Cogeyed users aren't utilizing the Groups to their full potential.  I thought it prudent for me to remind everyone of this feature as those who aren't using them are missing out! Cogeyed Groups are open to your creativity and desires.  The general idea is that you can create / join a body of like minded riders and setup a sub-community where you can be assured to always find content pertinent to you.

Location Location Location

Location is everything. A Need has been identified, and it's time that I shared that location that I've been scouting! Here is a map:

A Need

I moved back to Nova Scotia in the fall of 2007.  The four previous years were spent in the Maritime's richest mountain biking region, Fredericton.  In Fredericton there was so much riding you could ride a different location every night of the week and not hit them all.  The only active race course is Woolastook which is just a few minutes outside of the city, and it has all the infrastructure you need.  Plus there are at least two other areas in the city that could (and have) hosted races and or events.

More wheel trouble? Wha?  Yup.  This time I suffered a broken spoke on my rear wheel early in Race the Phantom.  Fortunately the wheel held it's true, more or less, and a friend (Skiimo) even managed a few laps on it at Gorefest before it was repaired!  I suspect this was just SNAFU for the likes of me.  A $0.90 spoke isn't so bad, especially considering the wheel didn't taco on me!

Gorefest 2009

It was a meeting over beers at the Old Port Pub months earlier between the group that was about to be announced as "Cogeyed" and Sportwheels that got the Cogeyed Gorefest cranks turning.  We were asked if we'd like to host the race in 2009.  Already scheduled for the weekend of August 8th / 9th, it didn't exactly fit my calendar perfectly as I was competing in over 100 hours of adventure races in the three weekends before hand!  But Mike "Konarider" Phillips was up to the task of performing the lion's share of the logistic work and by late July it actually

CCX Blog 2

It's been about a month since I'd thrown myself on the CCX.  When you neglect your bike it reminds you that you shouldn't have!  My last ride on the CCX was a cross ride and I wanted to throw down on a road ride so I had to change the tires.  Last night was supposed to be the ride night but when changing those tires I managed to snap off the threaded insert of the valve stem of one of my road tubes.  I'm certain that I have a spare tube somewhere, but given that it had been a month since I'd worried about it, it might as well have been on the moon.

Riding Woolastook Park and the Silverwood trails in May was a nice bench mark for the Epic, and of course my own improvement.  Both Woolastook Park and the Silverwood trails have a few spots that I use to measure how well I'm riding.  One place in particular in Woolastook along the Kelly's Creek / Shoreline trail is a large root on a short uphill section right by the water before you get into the pine-needle bench-cut section (heading out of the park.)  On my old hardtails this was a tricky maneuver to get up the obstacle smoothly.
