We are riding Tuesday April 27th!
Just because we're not officially riding doesn't mean we're not hitting the trails.
Aaron will be leading us from Sportwheels to the trailhead and then to chinese food post ride!
Hope to see you there!

The forecast indicates it should be good for riding. We'll meet at the regular time (6:45) and leave the shop to the trailhead.
Aaron and myself went for a walk on some trails and have some ideas for future trail cleanup. Sounds like a Trail Day is in order!
great!
meeting at the shop may be hard for me, but I may make it to the trail head to mert up for trails in my area.
Where are you guys riding this week? I can't make to the shop on time, but I may be able to catch up at the trail head.
May 11th looks good to go for a ride!
When you show up at the shop at 6:45ish please park in the back parking lot.
We'll decide where we're heading tomorrow but rest assured it'll be good!
NEW TRAIL TOMORROW NIGHT!!!
I'm headed into the woods with axe, hatchet, saw machete and shovel in pack today to clean up a nice trail we rode yesterday. Nice trail, climbs up on the way in a bit. Hard-packed with a few rocks. Great for novice and veterans alike. Can be silly fun/fast on the way out. It terminates, ( so far... :) ), at a look off. Make sure them brakes is good! See you at the back parking lot at 6:45 at Sportwheels.
Aaron
Hey. I'm looking forward to getting our for a ride tonight. In case I can't make it to the shop, where are you riding? I'll meet you there.
Give a call to the shop around 6:30-6:45 and I should be able to give proper directions as I'd have to touch base with Aaron.
PLEASE park in the back parking lot when you arrive at Sportwheels!
Back at it again tomorrow evening.
Remember your bug dope and water! Meet at the shop at 6:45 and we'll ride from there!
We had an amazing turn out last week and I hope to see the same for this week for both the weekly mountain bike rides and the womens' Beginner mountain bike Rides on Wednesday evening.
Although not an official event for Bike Week the mountain bike ride will be departing from Sportwheels at 6:45-7pm Tuesday June 1st.
Come celebrate cycling in a laid back setting. Come meet other cyclists, and ride local trails!
All welcome regardless of experience.
UPDATE FOR JUNE 1ST:
Ride cancelled, but MOVIE NIGHT AT OLD PORT PUB. Same time.
Huge thanks to Tony at Old Port Pub for letting us have a short notice movie night. Tony's support of the cycling community is awesome!
Also big thanks to Geoff Murray for bringing the movies!
good times good beers good people
Howdy all,
This week we're going to try a different spot. It's a great trail and just a little further drive from the shop. If we can carpool a bit it would be best.
The meet time will be the same. About 6:45 and we'll jet from there!
Looking forward to riding again after all the rain!
The weather person is calling for nice weatehr tomorrow so come out and join us for a bike ride!
Thanks to our adventuring trail guru Aaron we will be riding on a trail in Beaverbank.
Meet us at the shop at 6:45 and we'll caravan to the trail head, then for some yummy post ride nutrition!
Rain, rain is here to stay, we're going riding anyways!
We'll avoid any sensitive trails this week but we'll still get out for a rip.
6:45 at sportwheels, bring your rain gear and we'll jet from there.
DAY TRIP!!!
When: July 11th
Where: Links (Kentville)
The links is a trail system that beginners and advanced riders will enjoy. It combines mostly smooth single track with short sections of double track, some bridges, and of course some fast descents! A definite must visit trail!
Details:
Meet at Sportwheels 9am. Park in the back parking lot and we'll carpool to the valley for a day of awesome riding!
Necessities:
You and your bike!
It would be wise to bring extra water, some riding food (gels, energy bars or similar), and some bug dope.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy one of the best trail systems in the province!
Aaron will be leading the charge this coming Tuesday July 20th.
I realize it's calling for less than perfect weather but let's take the wait and see approach. He will choose an appropriate trail if the adverse weather arrives.
Well, the rides are going quite well so far! We've had a steady group of regulars as well as a good mix of new riders as well.
We are riding a lot of different areas and of varying skill levels. We try to mix it up as much as we can and am basing the rides on those who attend. It's a very dynamic way of doing things.
So, just remember to meet at the REAR parking lot of the shop at 6:30 - 6:45pm on Tuesday nights. Try to be on time so we can get the most riding time out of the night. Bring some water, and if you can a spare tube. We can help you change it, but if you have the room in a pack or baggie bring one along. And you gotta have a helmet.
Please tell your friends and co workers about it. It is the perfect way for someone who may be a little hesitant to try it on thier own or nervous or just not knowing where to go and cut those mountain biking teeth to get out and give it a try. You can have a used $89 department store jobbie from the 90's or a high-zoot race bike and anything in between. Just remember to come on out and have fun.
Hope to see you guys out there with more and more folks joining you!
Aaron
Well folks, I have a nice little surprise for everybody this week! Barbara and I did some scouting and found some really nice stuff to bring the ride group out to.
There are no big hills like up in Barrett's property, the dirt road portion is smooth as silk, the double track is absolutely gorgeous and there are nice wide bridges big enough for a car. It's even hybrid-bike-friendly! This is the ride to bring those potential newbies on to give them a very unintimidating introduction to the sport. You can ride right out to the back side of Grand Lake eventually on this trail network.
If some choose to carpool from the shop, this would be a good ride to do it on. We will have a map at the store to make sure you all get there alright.
We saw deer and rabbits last time we were there. There are two beautiful meadows to ride through, and the views are spectacular. Remember to bring some water, a spare tube, and a healthy sense of adventure.
It's about a 12 to 15 miniute drive from the shop, so come on out and bring a friend or three! This won't be a hammer fest, but you XC fire road racer-types would love to check it out so you can put it on your list of sweet spots to ride.
See you tomorrow night!
This coming Tuesday August 3rd, I will be in Gore preparing for Gorefest.
I invite anyone who would like to join me in a Preride of the course to meet me at the farm anytime after 5pm. If you would like to car pool meet at the shop in Sackville about 5:45 - 6pm so we can take advantage of the sun.
Aaron will be still available for a local ride at the regular time of 6:45 from the shop.
Clarification:
I realize that anyone coming up to ride Gore will be delayed as most work til 5ish. I'd say that 6-630 will give more time for people to make it to Gore.
Feel free to contact me by email, phone or message if you will be up and we'll work it out!
The rides are still going amazingly well. There are anywheres from 15-20 riders coming out on a regular basis. We are mixing it up as far as which trails we're riding, so it keeps it fresh for everyone.
We've all noticed that the hours of light are getting shorter. We will be carrying some lights with us from now on just in case we get caught off guard and have to ride back in the dark. If you happen to have a light it wouldn't hurt to throw it in your bag.
With shorter daylight hours comes cooler temps, remember to dress accordingly.
A few of the regulars are looking for a bit more of a challenge so I'm going to start going on some rides Sunday morning. The location will change weekly so we can all work on different aspects of mountain biking. The options will include trails such as Whopper, Spider Lake, Bedford Gun Range and some day trips to the valley or other similar locations.
If you're interested in going for a ride on Sunday am feel free to contact me via the rides on Tuesday evening, via email at mike@gorefest.ca or call me at the shop 865-9033 and ask for Mike!
This Sunday am 0900 Spider Lake Trailhead. If directions are needed please contact me at mike@gorefest.ca or call me at 220-0848.
Great Ride Sunday Am!
Spider was in great shape! I'll update on the location for next Sunday.
This Tuesday we are once again hitting the trail for the weekly beginner ride. We are losing light a little quicker now so I am going to aim for a departure from Sportwheels at 6:45. For those who have lights, it would be wise to bring them along.
See you this evening!
Make sure you bring lots n lots of water to the ride tonight! It's a hot one!
Sunday morning ride (depending on what Earl leaves us with!)
0900 at Whopper trailhead, if anyone needs directions etc please email me, PM, or call me at 220-0848.
For those who have never been to Whopper it is a mixture of granite rock, man made bridges (nothing too serious). It is a more technical trail than spider lake or the other trails we have done in the past but still very rideable for most riders.
Bring water!
We are nearing the end of the official weekly Sportwheels Mountain Bike Rides. As we have in the past we are capping off our summer with the now 3rd Annual Beginner ride BBQ at my cottage on September 25th. I will sending out invites via email along with directions etc .
We are still going to ride year round of course but on an unofficial level whatever that may mean. In other words get a light, some winter riding gear, and maybe some studded tires if we get any real amount of weather. Lots of time to get all your gear in order though!
I will be riding this Sunday morningat 0900. This week the ride will be at Bedford Gun Range. Meet at Bedford Place Mall at the end of the driveway closest to the ball fields (or Sackville).
Any questions call me (Mike@220-0848 or email at mike@gorefest.ca!
Sunday am ride. Road Trip!!!!
meet at 1000am at Sportwheels. Either the Links or Wentworth XC. Both excellent rides, just a matter of which one I want to do more!
Bring water, some food, maybe even a lunch if you want. This will have a respectable climb involved so be ready to spin up a hill!
Contact me with any questions.
This coming Tuesday is the last official group ride for Tuesday evening. Yes, we do ride year round but we are having the BBQ at my cottage on Sept 25th to say a huge thank you to everyone and anyone who came out at any point in time!
I hope to see everyone this Tuesday and on the 25th! If you plan to attend the BBQ and need directions please contact me at mike@gorefest.ca or on my cell at 220-0848
If going to The Valley (Annapolis valley that is) let me know I"d be up for a spin!
How has yesterdays rain affected the Links? I might be able to make that ride!
Not sure to be honest.
I did a little mellow xc ride in the afternoon yesterday on some old woods roads near Coldbrook, things didn't seem super wet. There were puddles but the ground was stiff firm.
Which old woods road in Coldbrook? There is a few good little trails that branch off the powerlines near Lockhart Mountain Rd.
edit. I'd be down for a spin through Woodville anytime. I was there last weekend and all the trails were in great shape (moist and hard packed with a few little puddles here and there.) Looks like the hurricane knocked over some trees throughout the Gravity link, so it's closed as of last weekend.
I can't miss the chance to ride with Pepperjester so links it is! We'll be leaving shop in Sackville a little after 1000 am. I'll phone you when we're leaving.

Some of those very ones. Their pretty good riding as far as roads go!
Mike: Are we going to be parking at the lot up top or some where at zee bottom?
hhmmmmm very good question. I suggest the top and then if people want we can do some shuttle runs later on.
check.
Awesome ride! Good to see a few familiar faces in Jim and Ryan.
Great weather and great trails!
Til Tuesday when we meet at the shop about 6:30 - 6:45 and we head out for a ride!
Remember the BBQ on Saturday the 25th!
hey thanks for coming out. Was a good time. Love this fall weather. You might see me tuesdays spin.
Two years ago we started hosting Weekly Mountain Bike Rides. Our goal was to provide a laid back atmosphere for those new or returning to the sport. We also are thrilled to see anyone who just wants to go for a ride regardless of skill level or years of experience.
Last year we started meeting at Sportwheels on Sackville Drive and heading to the local trailhead. Our group sizes have ranged from 4-6 in the middle of winter, to over 20 on a regular basis in the summer.
Our regular haunts include Charles Macdonald park and the trails around First Lake/Second Lake. We have also ridden Spider Lake and Whopper and will be planning some day trips for 2010.
There will also be the year end BBQ at my cottage with fireworks provided by Aaron Perrott!
We welcome riders of all levels and encourage you to show up and meet other riders and ride some trails!
Although we have been riding year round we will be officially starting our Weekly Mountain Bike Rides on May 4th, 2010. Hope to see you there!
Where: Sportwheels - 209 Sackville Drive
When: Every Tuesday evening - 6:45ish
