8 Hours of Gore

*tap* *tap* *tap*....is this thing on?

There are probably people out there right now planning stuff so I just want to throw out a suggestion:

for 8 Hours of Gore do you think it might bring in more people if it were 4 or 5 hours of Gore? The shorter time period may appeal to a wider range of folks and bring more people from farther away (ending it at 3pm instead of 6pm etc)

Just throwing that out there. I don't think having 4/5/6/8 hrs events at the same event is a good idea, just have one set time frame.

I'll still be there no matter what, but the trend seams to be toward 4 or 5 hour events.

Hope someone reads this.

been saying the same thing for years after 4 o clock it is just not that much fun any more. being able to wrap up and get out of there in a more reason able time would be an advantage to just about everyone involved i would think. like you i will be there regardless.

I like it going for 8 hours.  There are plenty of four and five hour events on the calendar now.  It wouldn't have the same epic feel that it does now.  I do recognize I may be in the minority though, as four or five hours may appeal to more people, along with being home by six. That being said, I would be there regardless of the duration decided upon.

I like it for 8 hours........perfect length for a 2 man team. Just be warming up after 4 hours. 8 hours is pretty hard core for solo riders.

The team thing is one of the biggest draws of Gorefest.  Dropping it to 4 or 5 hours takes away from that experience. I like 8 hrs too.

But hey, if the RD wants it to be 30 minutes or 30 hours, that's their perogative.

It was just a thought. I bet if the organizer compared attendance from one year to the next he'd find that the majority of people who did it one year were not back the next, hardcore cyclists excluded. Just sayin'.

I wasn't even getting warmed up until the 5 hour mark last year.

Hey everyone!

The planning for Gorefest 2011 is well underway.  I've posted some changes that are in the works on www.gorefest.ca.  A group of us have met and have a game plan to improve the registration process as well as many other aspects for this years' events.

The first person to have mentioned changing the time length to me was skull about a year ago.  This year we are offering two options 4 hours and 8 hours.  Let me deal with the logistics of how that's going to work, suffice it to say it will give an opportunity for people to try out an endurance event with the 4 hour format and the 8 hour format will allow the hardcore riders the chance to show their metal.

The 'penciled in' date is August 6/7th.  Hope to see you all there and I will be posting updates on www.gorefest.ca regularly.  We also will be launching a facebook page for Gorefest.

Looking forward to another great weekend and seeing lots of new and familiar faces!

Exclude the harcore cyclists from the other races and you don't have many people left!

There is something magical about 8 hrs, not just for Gorefest, but in a lot of other sports.  It appeals to people for some reason, and brings people out.

But whatev.  Looks like people will have their choice.

Yeah, I 'spose. I might skip the 8hr solo this year anyway. Maybe do a team of two. Or maybe just party. Its the time of year where I question even riding a bike come summer, ha ha.

Hey Guys,

I like the option.

French Fort Cove is 4 hours and the Old Hillsborough was 5.

Getting old and slow it was more like 5 hours and 6 by the time i was done.

I turn 50 next year, 2012, and plan on attending as many events as possible, the Gore being one.

I discoved Cyce Cross last fall and got hocked, thing I managed 3rd in "C" class.

Like the idea of going all out knowing it is only for an hour.

The enduracne is a challange i like and it takes time to buiild to ti.

I like to go hard and i have to learn to slowww down to last, I'm getting there.

My youngest brother ( 33 )  just startd MTB last summer maybe by 2012 he'll feel comfortable enought to

go with me a a team member.

Mater of fact we are having war-game night tonight and I'll mention it to him.

Once his ribs healed after his first outing last summer he could not get enough single track.

Keep it up guys your doing a great job and don't let anyone tell ya any different.
