Calling All Mountain Bikers!!!

I am organizing Gorefest again for 2010. I wanted to start this blog to keep everyone up to date to the progress of this year's event. I'm working on a lot of cool stuff to keep everyone going for the whole weekend!

Firstly the date has been confirmed already, thanks to Jamie Lamb and BNS ! I know people need to book their vacation so here it is....the date for Gorefest 2010 is.....(drum roll please)

August 7th - August 8th!

This is going to be bigger and better than last year!

If anyone has any questions or concerns please contact me at mike@gorefest.ca.

I have yet to finalize the schedule for all the different activities but I have confirmed the following events over the weekend:

Saturday:

 • Youth XC Race
 • Youth Sprint Race
 • Mountain Bike Riding Clinic
 • Trail Building Clinic
 • Bike Toss
 • Wheelie Contest
 • Night Crit/Naked Crit
 • one other To Be Announced Contest

Sunday:

 • 8 hour Endurance Event
 • Awards and Prizes

There will be a prize for the best costume again this year.  So get your heads together to put together the best costume and we'll secretly judge you while you're riding!

Things are going very well on the planning stages of this awesome event!

I've secured someone to provide food onsite both Saturday and Sunday to participants of all the events! (more info to come on that)

I should have registration available in April for those who want to take advantage of the early registration prices.  I hope to hit the trails with a few people sooner than later to work on trails and make sure the course is better then ever!

The list of sponsors for this year so far include:

Cogeyed, Sportwheels, Norco, Devinci, Pedaltrout, Cyclesmith,  and Trailblazer with more to come!

Lots of folks have volunteered to help and I will take you up on that offer when the time comes....don't worry about that! I thank everyone who has helped so far.  This year is going to be great thanks to the contributions of many.

Remember that costumes are encouraged and will be judged for a prize, so start thinking.

I got to ride the Gore course Sunday with the good people of the provincial trail association.

The trails are in great shape. This dry weather has left only a few wet spots. With some raking and a little tweaking the trails are going to rock for both A-Gore-A-Phobia and Gorefest.

Other updates include a food vender on site both Saturday and Sunday and another huge news update is in the works! I'll have more information on the specifics for food and my other surprise!!

I'd also like to add Oakley to the list of sponsors as they will be providing the prizes for the night crit!

This year I've decided to try a new method of marshalling the course on Sunday.

I'd like to have 4-6 volunteers who will take turns riding the course while carrying a two way radio, first aid kit, and basic repair tools. Their function will be to ensure that the course is safe and to verify that all riders are safe.

There will be perks for doing this of course!

If interested please contact me at mike@gorefest.ca.

Thanks Mike, and everyone else that is working to make this happen.
I hope to make my first appearance at Gore this year.

Sounds awesome! Super stoked to battle solo with Ol' Marty.

What's the SS competition looking like. Will someone be putting the screws to the defending champion, Mudderhucker, this year?

haha if team no homers turns up I'll likely be on teh SS, unless I find some $$ for a trail bike by then.

However I'm not sure I'd go as far as calling me "competition".

That's a sweet battle who knows maybe sum more Atlantic Canada riders will step it up and try and dethrone one of the reigning Champs

own the podium yo

if i can find an inexpensive 3 inch travel fork, i'll give her a go. as to competition, that would depend on how much saddle time on the s\s i can get in.

Last year I got a taste of Gorefest with the party, and it was awesome, but this year I want the full deal - can't wait for my inaugural Gorefest MTB Race!!!

Oakley be stoked to run the show in the late PM/early AM. Lots of throw-outs, cool prizing and overall great vibe ensured for Gore After Dark.

Thing are looking good for my return this year, still a couple hurdles to jump with family scheduling.

Did a ride on the weekend and after a winter of cheese burgers I managed to make some climbs on GreenSnake that I never made on the SS before. The sweet new upgrades helped though.

SSD when are you going to show your updated SS rig for this season?

i forgot about randy and his stealthy lookin s\s rig. an unquantitated force might be putting the boots to all comers in the s\s cat. , especially if he's as quick as he is on his normal bike.

I'm up in the air on the whole thing, actually. I live for the nightlife and Gore wouldn't be Gore if there weren't parts from the night before that I can't remember. That said, its been a few years since I raced solo at Gore and meant it, so I'm getting an itch to do it again. I've got the SS ready to rip but in Marty's words "Singlespeeds are for people who want an excuse for losing or a reason to not try" so I think I might be leaning towards the regular solo class and making a loser out of Marty.

come on randy, you gave me some stoke to try my hand at it. i can't beat you if you race a normal bike. (lol) s\s's are for people that hate shimano, and don't have to downshift for climbs.

I love Shimano and usually crank the 'climb' at Gore in the big ring, so if anything a SS will slow me down....

Who are you trying to kid???
You'd need to be chained to your house to miss the Gore party and if TS is at the party he ain't in race winning form the next day. 'Moderation' is for the drive to Gore.

I too am looking for a 3" fork, or else I will be stuck on my old bike again this summer. I did gore solo/ridget once before, and the very next day I was at the shop ordering a squishy fork. Never again. Really looking forward to this event again.

I have confirmed with Tony at Old Port Pub that there will be food available on Saturday and Sunday.

We will include a food voucher within the cost of registration which can be used on Saturday or Sunday.

I welcome Tony and Old Port Pub to Gorefest. Feel free to drop in to the Old Port Pub in Burnside to have a sneak taste of the food that will be available at Gorefest this year!

Hmmm. So, we got a parts hunt (Good luck with those 80mm forks. I finally cracked and bought a new SID. Short travel is only made for performance builds nowadays and they don't want to give them away!)

Non-committal/neutral response from a few SSers (Let's go Chris, you still have a target on your back). 8 hours is an incredibly long day, but rewarding like only true suffering can be. Beer and kettle chips never tasted so good.

and, finally, Tossed trying to get Marty in trouble with the toughest, albeit not brightest, kids on fat tires. You don't have to understand single speed riders, just love them unconditionally.

i might be getting a 4 inch fork, hint hint eroc, all i'll need is a light wheel with a 20mm axle. debating about what gear range to use. i was up to six hours of solid effort the year they swapped gore to martock, running 32x16, but lately my knee hates it and might run 32x18. got to get some saddle time to figure it out, man the full susp is too much fun.

we'll work out something special for the fork, you can have it for next to nothing.

re 20mm front wheel, since you can only ride one bike at a time, pull one off your other 2 bikes that have 20mm front :-)

then my stable of three working bikes won't be. (lol) i won't miss something i own, til the day it's gone. the quote just popped into my head, from where i don't know.

Hahaha, it took me a little while to figure out where that foggy quote came from. We'll see who the real loser is when your attack is meant with a face full of dirty diaper.

Ha ha , good one Marty. Seriously though, we see eye ta eye on the singlespeed thing.
Its like, "I know I'm going to do bad on this exam so I may as well have another beer." ha ha.

Actually, I started riding single speed while in collage because I couldn't afford drive train repairs. One thing after another and I still roll around on $8 chains. But your right, it is a great excuse to walk up hills, and fall off the back of someones wheel.

Don't get me wrong, I was all set to race the SS national Championships until I found out Wentworth was happening the same day.

We're just busting your chops, Chris. With courses like Conquer the Pass in the calendar SS looks like a lot of fun ;).

Everyone should go out of their way to get as many of their non-racer friends to come to the shit-show that will be going down saturday night. Bring tents. Bring beers. Rock it. Its really that easy.

^^ For sure

I've been working on some of my friends for a few years now hoping they actually commit this season.

any chance you and Hotwheels will "race" gore this year ?

Yah, this tuesday. jim was at the race today filming

It will be on tomorrow am between 0700-0900. Look for a shout out and 'ride through' by tommyboy and Emmitt Blois!

The trails at Gore are in great shape.

Huge thanks to all who helped out in their efforts. Specifically Tom and crew who spent a lot of hours out at Gore.

Also a big shout out to Mike Bois who added some awesome trails!

I just picked up a bunch of sample and demo tools from Trailblazer this morning. I'll have them set up near the A frame on Saturday for everyone to take a look at and purchase if you wish.

Trailblazer makes amazing tools right here in the Maritimes. This is a perfect opportunity to check out high quality products all while IMBA is available to show you how to optimally use it!

Look me up on Saturday August 7th or Sunday August 8th if you have any questions regarding the Trailblazer tools that will be on display.
