New to NS and looking for trails.

Hey All

Well after a 7 year mission where many...many have gone before I've made it back to NS and am looking to get out and get aquainted with the trails around the HRM. I've been riding in Ontario for the last year and am looking forward to graduating from bouncing off trees to bouncing of trees AND rocks...I would call myself an intermediate rider and would love any advice on where to go start exploring. Also if there are group rides or anyone just looking for someone to go for a rip with please let me know, I would definitely appreciate a tour guide.

Looking forward to any help you can offer!

Thanks so much

Mike

Not in Halifax but the AVMBA (Annapolis Valley Mountain BIke Association) hosts typically two rides a week.

Wednesdays nights is basically our intermediate ride and Friday nights beginner are rides. Most Fridays we have bikes and helmets to lend out (Thank you Trips For Kids) for those just starting out)

This Wednesdays ride is at Cape Split and should be a damn good time (Wish I could go but have to work tomorrow evening)

Friday I think we're going to do a Pre-Race ride at The Gorge trails in Kentville rather then our typical beginner ride. I'll be there to tour people around the race track in prep for this Sundays race.

Check out the avmba at www.avmba.com :)

If your interested in coming to the Valley for a rip, just let me know. i'd be glad to give you a tour of some of the local trails. We have some very sweet xc and free ride trails that your bound to enjoy. If your looking for some thing a bit more hard core PM me about some private DH trials.

Cheers,
Ryan

Lots of trails around HRM. Most visited are probably Whopper Dropper and Spider Lake (see Trails section).

There's a beginner-to-intermediate group ride on Tuesdays, meeting at Sportwheels in Sackville at 6:30.

There's a group riding Whopper this Thursday at 6:30(?).

I was at Cape Split a week and a half ago. It was a mudfest. Not riding there again until we have a drought. Love the trail, but it needs really dry weather to be any fun.

Thanks guys, You've given me some great places to start. I'll be in touch soon and with any luck see you out on the trails soon after!

Also, Where's Whopper?

Huh. It's probably the most popular trail around, and it's not in the trails section.

Go to the Bayers Lake business park, and find Burger King. The driveway into the parking lot beside Burger King leads right into the Whopper trailhead. It's best to park down below, as people (including me) have had their vehicles broken into, when parked further up. A lot of people find Whopper confusing when they're in their the first few times, so it helps to have a guide. I think there's a group ride there tomorrow night at 6:30.

I guess the group ride isn't happening tonight after all.

Welcome, Mike...
You might find this useful. Always looking to get more on the map, too.

I'm new to Nova Scotia (from Ontario) as well and looking to do some riding and meet some other riders. Whopper happens to be right near where I work so I will probably head there this week after work some time. Is there a regular group-ride there I can link up with?

There's a regular Tuesday ride at Sportwheels in Sackville at 6:30. Usually a casual ride, suitable for beginners, but we may hit up something a little more difficult, depending on who shows.
Also a regular Whopper ride Thursdays at 6:30. Generally a faster pace over more difficult terrain, but still pretty casual. Info here:

Thanks Rockhopper,

I'll probably hit Whopper solo earlier on Thursday. Good to know that some people will be going through there later on in case I get lost or have a nasty bail. Cheers.
