I've raced XC and DH at Poley many times, its probably one of the toughest courses around, and a lot of fun. Glad to hear its back on the roster.

Anyone hear how the meeting went with the management from Poley & Gravity Logic last Sunday? It would be awesome to have lift access less than an hour from Moncton. Praying to the bike gods.

Wha! This would be incredible! Please, someone fill us in!!!

For anyone who has not heard...yes Poley is in the discussion and exploration phase with Gravity Logic from Whistler. I will attempt to keep the Mountain Biking Community up to date with any news in the near future.
This would be unreal to see a Mountain Bike Park this close to so many riders...Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton, Truro, Halifax and everywhere in between!!!!
Ride On!

Why not run this on the Sunday of the Elgin 80 weekend? Elgin is always on the Saturday. People could stay and shred shit on Sunday. I'd also say we could get our party on Saturday night but it's usually a pretty early night after racing Elgin.
Just a thought.

We had a small shuttle/build day at Poley yesterday, and I am stoked to announce the re-introduction of the infamous "Rock Garden" to the Poley Mountain DH course.
The course is ready to rock....the long range forecast looks perfect!
Camping available on site, please contact John McNair for further details or keep up to date on our Facebook Events page.
Spread the word....this is going to be an epic weekend of DH racing!

Re-Birth of the Poley Mountain DH Race Course
August 14-15, Sussex, New Brunswick
Presented by Outdoor Elements
Sponsored by: Outdoor Elements, Dakine and Oakley

August 14th and 15th will see racers from all over the Maritimes flocking to Poley Mountain to test their skill and speed against the clock, the course and each other.

After many, many years of neglect, it is with great excitement that John McNair of Outdoor Elements announces the re-birth of the Poley Mountain Downhill Mountain Bike Race.
Ten years ago, this venue played host to Canada Cup Races, it has since seen little use and had become a bit overgrown to say the least.

Outdoor Elements is the local outdoor, bicycle and ski shop located in Sussex, New Brunswick. The local crew along with a few dedicated volunteers decided it was time to put some work into the old course and host a race once again on the infamous Canada Cup Race Course. The plan was to use the existing course with a few updated sections and use a complete top to bottom race run.

The improved race course is described by many as the only true DH Race Course east of Quebec, with a great variety of terrain from top to bottom. This course has a fairly large rock drop off the start that sends you into a steep section, and then carries you through various high speed open pedaling sections and tight, fast, technical singletrack that will surely test the endurance and skill of the racers. Half way down this course there is a smaller rock drop followed by a fast pedaling section before entering the infamous “Rock Garden”. This section of the course has claimed many race runs, flat tires and truly tests the skill of each rider. Once the “Rock Garden” has been conquered, racers can breathe a short sigh of relief as they enter a new section of trail with a couple of tight greasy turns. Again accelerating across a wide open “pin it” section, racers must trust the tires on the grass cornering into the last woods section with a steep entrance and fast step down to the final sprint to the finish line.

This is the first Downhill Race of the season as a Velo NB sanctioned event. Velo NB’s mandate is to promote cycling in New Brunswick. This includes recreational and competitive cycling activities, touring, and transportation. They represent all disciplines: road cycling, mountain biking, track, cyclo-cross, and BMX. Affiliated with the Canadian Cycling Association and Union Cycliste Internationale, Velo NB is the provincial governing body for the sport of cycling in New Brunswick.

The organizer of this event; John McNair, invites everyone to take in the action of this exciting event. Downhill Mountain biking is a great spectator sport. If you don’t plan on participating, you should plan on hiking around and checking out the competition. The weather looks great and the scenery in the Sussex area is unbelievable.

For more information on this or other cycling events in the Sussex Area, be sure to call or email Outdoor Elements. 506-433-3060 or john@outdoorelements.ca, and you can also find more details on our Facebook Page.

You can also order prints from Paul.

some suggestions for the future:
Different classifications for riders: The masters class acted as a beginner class, but where would a 20 something year old beginner race????? Not a Junior and not a master......gotta race Elite????? My race run got wrecked because of me catching a 1st time racer in the last single track/chute section.....
There was a lot of down time at this race (not including broken trucks and legs) People traveling don't have the option of sitting around all day, and with the timming system it is easy to have times ready very quickly.....we left at 5pm not knowing our placing or times.......which really was a downer.
Just some suggestions to make things a little smoother in the future and add to what was grreat race weekend.

Checked out the photos, looks like a fun trail, will have to go ride it next time.

Had a fun weekend. There is so much potential at that hill, I hope to get to ride there again in the future.. but with a dozen more trails!! PLEASEEEEEEE.

I will have to echo what Dave said thou. Things did kinda drag out on Saturday and Sunday but other wise was a great event.

We may try to put something together for this fall, but if not, it will be on the calendar for next summer for sure. Is the NS scene still supporting good ol' classic XC events...or is it trending towards "enduro" events?

Those who whine rarely, if ever, volunteer or organize events.

Just sayin'!!!

If that's directed towards me I'll just let you know that I have organized a couple races a year for the past 3 years including this year. My suggestions are just basic ones to help improve the quality of the experience the racers have at an event. People want to get home at a reasonable time on Sunday, they want to know where they placed at the end of the day and what their time's were,........thats what ya pay for.

only positivity from me.....just tryin to help.

Any chance there may be another DH race later this fall - say October?

Foot in your mouth.

Dave and I hosted a DH race in July. Will be putting on a XC race September 5 and I lead a bike festival in BC this spring.

Dude we've got 5 full-on old school XC events this summer PLUS the enduro style events. We love it all.

I'm just talking here, but if you(not just anybody) were organizing a Poley XC event, and by chance you guys used the exact same categories as NS and by a stroke of good organization could guarantee full results be available to BNS, well, I'm just sayin'...
