Purcells Cove / Fight Trail

Hey!

I work with the Nova Scotia Nature Trust and am working on some trail up grades on part of the Fight trail. I'm looking for anyone who rides that area for some input to help keep the trail bike friendly. If you want to meet up and talk trails email me alice(at)nsnt.ca

cheers

Alice

get in touch with Cycle Smith. rumor is, that a few of their club riders have been putting effort into the trail. what i've seen has been good work. plus they've been refreshing gords gold too. sweet to have another loop up there in the back end.

hope this helps.

Neither Cyclesmith nor any of its club members/employees are involved in any official capacity. Anybody that is has already been in communication with the Nova Scotia Nature Trust.

Heh, this reminds me of post-juan when we were all gung-ho to clean up Wrandees (Long Lake Provincial Park to you Nature Trusters) and posted up the time/date/location for everyone to meet and we were greeted by a DNR Officer that day.

Lets keep it in perspective, people, the only good mountain bike trail is a crushed gravel path 20ft wide.

 (lol)^^^

the door is open, what's up with wasting opportunities.? BNS? Cyclesmith? NS MTB trail associations? or will it continue to be a free for all, but with no trails for our own.

or are they waiting for someone else to do it for them?

Go for it. All I am suggesting is that it is best to proceed with caution when involving groups outside of the mountain biking community in the land access process.

I don't remember if there is a Land Access/Trails Coordinator person at BNS or not. Even if there is, the position will be up for grabs this fall/winter for another 1 year term, for anyone thats interested.

you wouldn't want me or my peers doing this, remember we're a bunch of can collecting fellers, (words from your mouth) might make the pathetic scene look worse than it already is.

I've lost track of everything that I may or may not have said. Please, refresh everyone's memories for the sake of the new site, I need a good laugh.

it just irks me that opportunities such as this get wasted. maybe they'll help us, or even know what we'd want in a trail, if we'd let our gaurds down and work with them.

hey randy, if you can't remember what you say, you shouldn't blurt out names and what not about people you don't even know.

Opportunities like this present themselves in surprising abundance, which is one of the problems you don't mind having when fielding them for your respective organization or personal resources.  I can't keep track of all the local movements with respect to trail development, and I will take a second on the soap box to suggest we do have a lot of new wheels invented.  Anyway...

Alice, we do have a trail advocate position within the BNS Mountain Biking Committee.  He happens to also be the acting chair of the newly formed Nova Scotia Mountain Bike Trail Association.  Contact me at lowery(dot)andrew(at)gmail(dot)com if you're looking for the man Tommyboy, otherwise if you're looking for individuals to contact you for your organization best of luck.

yeah andrew, i see opportunities at least once a month, from the news papers to online sites. even on a powerpole.

the way i see it, they want trails, mtb'rs want trails, there's a large number of people wanting the same thing even in the same areas. hiding our intentions because of assumptions is lame and nothing will ever get done. swallow our pride and work things out for the better of mtbing.

hey randy,  was it peter or was it paul? (lol)

I'm not talking about hiding anything, I'm talking about being wary.

I don't know what else you are refering to, sorry.

It would be nice to work with everybody, but it's not logistically possible.  And it also seems impossible to have any kind of provincial governing body outside of DNR for trail related issues.  My advise to individuals is to either find a trail association that best fits their personal needs / desires, or to find a local destination and either start or join one of it's existing associations.  My advice to associations is to work with others... whenever possible sharing resources.

some trails in wrandies has been freshened up too. good work too, from what i hear in the rumor mill. must check em out.

fun place

I posted a Nature Trust Trail Restoration work shop in the Events Forum for Nov 6

It is from a poster Alice Morgan sent out.

Alice is filling in for Sally Jo Gallant.

It would be good to see some MTB people out on some of these events.

The trail building course is great you get to learn a lot from Garnet.

I think it is good to work with the Nature Trust group and  all the volunteers.

Its a good time to talk them about Mountian biking trails, they're good people.

The NSMTBTA is looking for Members

I thought I would just post this up:

We believe there is strength in numbers. We are at a point where we need to increase our membership to help strengthen the voice of the mountain bike community and get more people involved in our cause. Membership costs only $10 and members can attend meetings, add items to the agendas, vote on issues and run for election on the Board. Your membership fee will help cover operating costs such as insurance and memberships in other trail organizations.

If you believe that Nova Scotia needs more places to mountain bike, if you're sick of seeing trails turned into towers, if you want to learn more about trail building and maintenance, we need you. Please take a moment to fill out the attached form and mail it along with your $10 membership fee. Cheques can be made out to the Nova Scotia Mountain Bike Trails Association.

Our next meeting will be held on November 2nd. We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Sue Earle, Secretary
on behalf of the Nova Scotia Mountain Bike Trails Association

Yea booy, big chillin.  Looks like i was still rocking the Faith then.

if i joined nsmtbta, would this include a bns nonracer membership?

thanx for the info jim.

NSMTBTA are not affiliated wtih BNS, so nope it wouldn't include such a thing... you're safe.

actually the reason i asked andrew, was that i was hoping it was. a group for trails, with a bns membership is what i've been wanting.

thanx for the quick reply though.

If by 'group' you mean 'club' then it pretty much already exists in that some clubs either have movements in trail work / development OR they are waiting for someone to start it up.

are you saying nsmtbta has a bns membership of some form?

No.  I'm saying that 'what you've been wanting' exists out there, or at the very least it's out there for you to initiate.
