Well I headed out without a guide.. and discovered many great trail heads out by long lake I THINK I was around fight trail, does it resemble a river bed at the beginning? either way I had to tap out as I realized I didn't have an extra tube and it looked like a popper of tires...Ended up over at sanford fleming going uphill a lot.

Sounds like you found wrandies! Fight is up in sprytown

Thanks Essen! That's a killer riverbed at the beginning, does it smooth out or is it all gnarly all day?

never mind....just found it int "Trail Maps" looks like it's pretty bumpy most of the way!

I haven't been in there for a while, the back loops are ok, but the rest is pretty worn out due to all the dog walker etc (I assume you actually are talking about wrandies!)

In the winter its pretty mint through, the walker pack the snow, and its like a bob sled track in the woods!

Sounds lik you had a bit of an adventure in "Wrandees". :)
Sounds like you went in from the parking lot and stayed right along the lake and then up the riverbed. That goes up to another trail, "Area 51", but it's pretty wet and not a great ride in Spring, Summer, Fall. However, in winter, when the stream's frozen, it's an awesome section to ride.
If instead of going right, you went left across the dam, there's tons of riding in there. Like Essen says, most of it by the parking lot is pretty rough, and crappy (literally because of all the dog poop). The better sections are easier to get to through Northwest Arm Drive entrances. I'm not a big Wrandees fan, since a lot of the trail is rough and rooty, but go in every once in a while.

yup, you nailed it Rockhopper, that sounds like exactly what I did. Unfortunately since I didn't have a tube and I was alone I didn't venture beyond the crappy part, but nice to know that come winter I'll know where to head. Thanks for the info!

I was thinking the next place to explore might be spider lake, thoughts?

Great riding at Spider. It helps to have a guide though. My favorite sections are the Ribbon of Love (up the main trail, first trail on the right, and then look for a trail on your left. The ribbon wll climb back up to the main trail.), the Humps/Six Pack (once back at the main trail, go left. When you come out to a clearing, look for a trail on the right. Follow the trail to the left back down the hill.), and Inner Peace (follow the Humps/Six Pack downhill until it comes back out on the main trail. Then turn left back up the hill, and look for a trail on the right. Inner Peace takes you back up the hill to the clearing, where you can do another circuit of the Humps).

Mr Mikey, it's really necessary to have a guide, like RH says. A fantastic system when the snow is down and the trails are packed firmly. Some of the best riding of the year is in otherwise unrideable areas of Wrandees in the dead of winter.
