Here's the event poster:

If there are any questions, please feel free to put them in this thread and Conor and myself will do our best to answer them for you.

We hope to see lots of people out for this event. The hill is in great shape and we have an awesome new trail cut that replaces the grassy switch backs. Come check it out for yourself!

Thanks
Mark

Is there no shuttle fees this year or are they covered in the 25 dollars.

The sum total for saturday will be $25.
Sunday will be $25 to race or $25 to ride.
If you can help marshell on sunday you can ride for $15 but you have to present yourself and turn up for both runs.
you need to have a valid CCA membership to ride. (most clubs are CCA regestered but make sure)
One event licences will be avaiable for THE RACE ONLY.

I've not been to wentworth in a couple years, would love to try and make it. Can I buy a BNS General Membership ($25) and pay the $35 at the hill to ride June 5th.

Ok, just to clarify, I have a Cyclesmith club membership and that is all I need before getting to the hill? The rest (race license and lift ticket) can be purchased at the hill?

Someone from BNS might want clarify this...is there a fee for race plates? If so...how much?

If you need a plate it's $5. If you return the plate you can get your $5 back at the race only... i.e., can't get it back a few weeks later.

It has been reported to me that there were a few guys riding on the hill last week, possibly tuesday night. Reminder: no riding on the hill unless it is a ride day. Not even pushing up. Please and thank you.

Hi everyone,

Due to the impending wet weather, please keep an eye on this site for any cancellations. If we are cancelled, it will be here. If you don't see it here, you can assume that it is a go. as of right now, we are going to go.
another importiant topic: large parts of the hill have recently been seeded. Please stay off of them and on the trails only. the freeride trail as been partly wiped out by the new sugar shack ski trail so I would ask that people please stay to the RIGHT hand side as they go down, you will be able to catch the rest of it after crossing the sissy. watch for pylons.
We will have the updated list from bsn as to whome is a member and who is not. If you are not sure, i reccommend you call and find out if you have been processed yet. if not, have your credit card handy and get the refund later.

People without a valid CCA membership will be turned away. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Weather's lookin pretty good as of today. Chance of trace rain showers........less then 1mm on Sunday.
BRAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPPPPP

I'm stoked for some fierce shrelping.

Having never been to wentworth in the damp... whats to expect with the decent rain predicted for the next couple days and chance of showers on sat...

Whats a damp wentworth like? greasy? Sloppy? super sketch? Or will it be perfect grippy dirt?

It'll be perfect!!!!!!!! Its supposed to be dry after early friday morning. The hill will dry up and we'll have tacky dirt, with a little mud in some spots is my guess. There's just a chance of showers for the rest of the weekend. I'd rather these conditions then the dust storm last year.

Dusty + stuck in the trailer = red snot for a week.

The conditions will be pretty interesting if we get rain. There are always a few exciting roots on course which will keep you well awake if your 16 red bulls didn't do the trick. Last night, we polished up a few areas of the track to make a little more speed and visibility (read: lopped a bunch of head attacking branches) throughout the course. There's the potential for some serious braaappppappapappppppp up in this course, so get your pop o wheelies ready, and get ready to sing!

Hmm, about this race license. I read on the poster that for race day you can purchase a 1 day license, but what about practice day on Saturday? Can anyone tell me where I need to go or who I need to contact to purchase a license to participate on this day? (Live in downtown Halifax)

I'd say that at this point you're s.o.l. But if there is a chance for you to buy a license, it lies with Nimzie. I've heard unconfirmed reports that he's meeting with the BNS registrar this afternoon to submit Cogeyed memberships. Read what I said carefully... this is unconfirmed. At the 11th hour miracles are difficult. Best of luck.

Another option might be for you to hand deliver a general membership application to BNS on Spring Garden road... but if you're going to buy a general membership for the ride day and then an OEM for the race then you might as well just get a race license and then you won't have to worry about OEMs the rest of the season.

on the thing nimz posted he said dead line for cogeyed membership is midday today. I'd say get yo ass in gear and get form + $$ to Adam!

I guess I am SOL, wife is at work until 12. So I can still participate on race day right?

his office is by the armview... how badly do you want to go?

I hear they have buses/taxis in this fair town.

It's not only the lack of car until she gets home, I'm home with a 10 month old, and the stroller/carseat/backpack is in the car.

ah bugger

Courier? Probably only a couple of bucks.

Hmm, the wife said she should be home at 11 today, think I could intercept this Adam at the BNS office?

check your PM's :)

No, Adam is with the Cogeyed Club. You can join BNS (the CCA) through a club or as an individual... it's cheaper for you by $5 or $10 to go through a club though.

Send Nimzie a private message and see if you can hook up. Another option for you might be to go into the BNS office and ask for Tamara, or call her at 425-5454 ext. 316 to see if you can be accommodated. I can't make any promises on behalf of the Registrar's department. Another guy to contact is Dave Wharton... you can probably find his contact info somewhere on the BNS pages regarding joining / member benefits etc.

Awesome guys, thanks for all the info, I just left a message for Adam, hopefully he gets it, and I've been trying to get a hold of Tamara, so I'll see what happens, hopefully I'll see you all tomorrow. :)

Well I guess this is it, I won't be seeing anyone tomorrow, I got a hold of BNS, the lady there said there is no chance of me getting anything registered for tomorrow. I guess it'll be race day only for me. Yay for no practice!

see, now this is why i've given up on Dh in NS. It's all sugarloaf for me.

easy mike, they'll figure it out. but yes for 100 dollar and the occasional gas money, sugarloaf will be the cheapest ticket for descending. plus there's another hill maybe that'll be running soon, which is a little closer.
have fun folks, wentworth is a blast when wet, just think smooth and simple and you'll be maching down the hill in no time.

Oh wait! I managed to catch Adam Shore at work last second and he hooked me up, so I'm good to go, again, thanks everyone for your help, see you all tomorrow!

sorry you feel that way mike...but we're just trying to cover our asses here. And as far as I can read...mboland waited until the last minute to decide to get a general membership. We've posted info about this along time ago...I also made a poster and sent it to every shop I could think of to try to avoid this exact thing from happening.

I expect a full on shit show tomorrow and likely will be turning away alot of people. Its going to suck to do so, but what can we do? We've had people that ride with us weekly in looking for memberships today...and have known about it for a long time. We've done our part and have done a good job at that as far as i'm concerned.

I think Mark and Conor have done a great job of getting the word out on this site, likely pedaltrout and likely a little facebook, too. The $25 is pretty minimal, and it hurts to see people down on the scene again - especially like you - Mike who love riding DH.
To make things easier, I put the word out that I was getting some special last minute licenses processed, and I meant it.
4 people got them to me - one was a little late even, and we worked it out.
Some got race licenses which I didn't know we would be able to do, and some got General memberships.
It's fucking awesome that Dave Wharton is taking the time today to fill out forms for a generally thankless body of people. Andrew 09 Lowery has been passing people along to me for information as well. They've all been hooked up.
This kind of commitment does make the scene. Sugarloaf is super duper awesome and so is Wentworth. The set ups are entirely different and the focus, too.
I'm so stoked on gravity cyclery. woot.

People have had a very long time to get there poop in a group. Very very very long time. I don't think anyone hoping to attend tmrw will not have had a chance, sometime in the last 2 months to get this done.

On another more serious note, we are go for tmrw but sunday is weather dependent at this time. for tomorow, on the hill: the freeride trail will be closed. the hill has just invested lots and lots of time and money into re-seeding and haying large parts of the hill. Stay off these places at all costs or we will be kicked off never to return. If its not a trail, you should not be there. end of story. The freeride trail is closed for that reason.

To recap: sunday is a MABY. Sat. is a go but stay on the dh trails only and the freeride trail is CLOSED. Or we will be kicked off never to return. I had an email from the manager/owner telling me that she will have no problem kicking us off for good if we cant behave.

Sometimes its good to take a few steps backwards and ask yourself what your goal is.

In this case its ride a bike down a hill.

Sometimes its as easy as turn up and ride, sometimes you have to walk your bike up the hill, sometimes you get a truck or a lift.

I don't know, sure its one more little step this time around but it really is just a simple little step, takes not even 5min to fill the form out, then give it and 30 bones to Adam and your sorted to ride at any ride at wentworth (and others I expect) for the year. No big deal IMO.

If thats what it takes to make it possible to ride the hill then so be it.

Maybe once the support and numbers are there we'll see one of these places open up regularly during the summer, but that won't happen if people don't show up...

Plus riding at wentworth is fun :)

don't get me wrong fellas. I much appreciate the amount of work/planning/etc that this takes and kudos to the organizers, but when you are on a budget and have to make a choice (difficult one believe me), i ended up with the funner/cheaper option (which i calculated to be sugarloaf). Love the trails at wentworth, just not finacially viable.

Nimzie mentioned it, but I've got to echo it... Dave Wharton, the registrar for BNS has been working more hours of overtime than there are hours in the day. He is the guy who does all of the paperwork involved with a membership and he's been working like team of 10 who actually get paid.

Bravo Dave!

Best of luck Conor & Mark... I hope it's a successful weekend for you.

Werd! Both Dave and Tamara are likely due for some stress leave after this past week. They will likely both be very happy to not have any emails from me...well for a couple of weeks anyway...hehe. Thanks to you as well, Andrew, for your help...it is appreciated.

Can someone help me here? my self and two others have paid for memberships, two of us paid two weeks ago and one of us paid as of this morning but we have no cards are we sol or are we gona be able to ride? we paid through Bicycle Plus Club.

i hate to break the news..but as it was explained to me from the folks at BNS....if you bought a club membership today from a shop ...and even though it says that you are a club member...you are not officially a registered with the CCA (i.e. the required registration) until someone at BNS processes the paperwork. Filling out the form at whatever shop you bought your membership does not complete the process. The registrar at BNS has to sign off on this to make it official. I apologize for this and it sucks to have to turn people away...but that's the way it is.

Just to elaborate on McKay's note...

When you fill out your paperwork in an LBS, it needs to be endorsed by the club president and then mailed to BNS (if you're purchasing a race license) or the club president needs to send a formal report of the new member(s) to the BNS registrar.

What BNS needs to do is assign each member a registration number, and log them as a member of the CCA. Once that is done, they are an official member.

The LBS staff accepting the applications this afternoon for example may not have known the difference themselves, or they may not have appreciated the application so they figured a day or two wouldn't make a difference.

I'm very sorry about the confusion on this piece... but I really wasn't expecting people to wait until 5:30 p.m. to sign up when we've been talking about this for months.

The best news coming from all of this is that now that we have some new members, they are all in a position where they can change policy or create new ones to help facilitate processes like this.

Have a great weekend guys.

members have powers?

Mucho power.

The Final decsion on tomorows race will be made by 6 pm tonight. the weather is still very questionable and we are not allowed to ride in the rain at the hill. I do apoligize for the lateness of the call but it can't be helped.
Conor.
