Winter Cross Training

What's everybody doing to stay in shape over the winter?

I picked up some new skate skiis and am looking forward to a decent snowfall this year. But I may forgo the xc skiing for this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeMJOPlK-0E&feature=player_embedded.

I saw on a few PRO racers blogs that they've started their training for next season already. Crazy.

Those are some nice leg warmers.  You'd think their panties would keep their ankles warm most of the time.

Skate ski for me this year I think.  It's a pricey sport to get into, but there's a philanthropic soul here who might loan me some gear.  If it doesn't pan out, then classic xc ski is pretty easy to get started with.

If I can find a used set of skate skis I might pick some up, though I think I'll stick to my back country skiing and snowshoeing again this year.  Hoping to do a lot of running too.

Nice video.  I'll mountain bike until the snow gets too deep, and then it's skate skiing, running, and when I get very desperate, the cursed trainer.  I'd like to add backcountry skiing or snowshoeing, but a person can only have so much gear.

Funds to purchase gear, that's another story.

Hoping to ride bikes. Studded tires go on when the first snow's down and appears to be staying. Wrandees is almost always good when the snow's not slushy. The dog walkers pack it down well. Will be riding the skate park when things are dry.

Might try to do some winter riding this year.

Other then that just alot of gym time and hopefully some snowboarding.

^^^ Get some lights man, you know not what you are missing right now!! Its been prime night riding!

Ya its on the list of "items to purchase" but right now my focus is on much needed gym time and getting a massive supension upgrade along with some new protective gear. Afterthat for sure.

This sounds a bit odd, coming from a person who owns five(!) bikes.

Lights have opened up a whole new world of riding for me.... I almost would rather ride at night now.

Winter sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, are great for your core. See ya at Martock!

I want to get heavier into xc skiing this winter; hoping for lots of week-night trips to Martock for a few hours on the new skate trails with an hour on the board for dessert.

Other than skiing: tons of gym and some road riding when it's decent enough - same goes for studded tire riding.

 The five point plan...

1.  XC ski & snowshoeing

2.  Lots of Snowboarding (got a 3 week trip planned in BC... can't wait)

3.  Watch a shit load of Mountain Bike movies

4.  Buy an 8 pack instead of a 12 pack

5.  Stay away from the yurts in Campbellton

if there was a speed skating rink closer I'd do that again. It'll be snowshoeing and snowboarding for me. Also want to get some xc skiis.
