They have to wear full shields. Not sure the reasoning, but it's the rules!!
Women's hockey
Yeah, I saw the first period and thought, man it must suck to have to draw canada as your first game.
I'm a little surprised that the rest of the world hasn't caught on a little more by now.
Streetgang, does Oakley make a full shield? I'm not sure why the women have to wear a full shield either. It might have something to do with their average height being about 12" shorter than the men! (The little guys always have the most scars and the least teeth.) Though I do find that very doubtfull!

Lets all agree this is one of the hi-lites of the olympics so far.
Can you believe there are people saying stupid shit about that picture. If I had just won a gold medal I would have set a keg up at center ice with a hose taped to my hand so I couldn't lose track of it. We are Canadian.....

The Olympic rings and beer don't mix. Sorry to disagree with you here but it's the biggest tournament in the world, not a beer league. If the USA women's team had won gold and they were drinking at centre ice it would be an international incident. The men's team won gold and they weren't stupid enough to bring beer and cigars on the ice. I'm pretty sure the men's team were drinking to celebrate but you didn't see them drunk in their Team Canada uniforms or on the field of play. Olympic medallists are being celebrated prior to NHL hockey games, somehow they refrain from drinking beer or appearing to be drunk in public. The women's team should have known better, it only serves to make them look like drunken bush leaguers.
I have no issue with drinking to celebrate the win, just keep it in the room.
.
I'm pretty sure they did have it in their room. An hour after they left the ice, they were asked to come back out for some media pics. The arena was empty and the celebration had begun. Just like every other winning team, they started to celebrate in the dressing room.
Funny how that was never really emphasised in any media initially.
The even IOC said it's not really that big of a deal.

Poor Slovakia, it must be tiring to feel like you're shorthanded for 60 minutes.
Are women not allowed to wear 'regular' sheilds? Even at this level? They seem to all be wearing full cages or mega-sheilds.
