i think i am good for tires for a while.
buying stuff
so seems there is some interest in ordering stuff from some where.
What stuff are people looking for?
Pricepoint? or CRC? or both?
I'm a little reluctant to order from CRC until they have the tires I want.
Still want bars and a stem, but we'll see how this shifter thing pans out... If I end up with all new 10 speed X0 gear, they might be on hold for a bit.
mid caged derailler, inexpensive chain guide, some inexpensive bars, tires, and bearing cups.
sounds like a pricepoint order would be the ticket for the above.
Price point is win for:
Sram drive train (if thats teh way you roll)
Cheap bars/stem
Cheap chain guides
X9 mid/short cage 2010 model are $69 ea and shifter set is about $50
What are you thinking of going with Mark? Shimano or SRAM?
CRC is selling an XT shifter for $48. Then I'd need a cassette and chain. Going with SRAM means a deraileur too.
The only Shimano shifters you can buy individually at PP are either 10 speed or a Saint for $75. Although PP has the PG950 cassette for $5 less and the PC971 chain for $6 less... So I'm looking at $16 more instead of $27... But then there's no free shipping from PP either is there?
*ponder*
Or I might just go to Bikes by Dave... He thinks he can help me out... Fingers crossed...
Shimano = CRC
SRAM = pricepoint
I would not let the choice on which way to go be driven by a few $$.
Personally I prefer SRAM shifting, all though the new shimano stuff is nice. (I never liked the rear deraileur body moving which allows it to bang into the chain stay and make a god awefull racket).
The shadow deraileurs are nice and out of the way.
I've seen more shimano drive trains jamed up due to muck than SRAM...
New drive train from pricepoint (SRAM)
X9 2010 mech = $70 (you can also do X7 2010 for $45 in short/med/long)
X7 individual shifter 2010 = $30 ($50 for X9, or $40 for a set of X7 f/r)
PG980 9sp cassette = $50 (seems to be best bang for buck, 100g or so lighter than all steel, and the 990 doesn't seem to buy you anything really, excpet 3g and carrier color choice and the all steel cassettes are heave as hell and eat into your ally free hubs body, if its ally that is).
Chain PC971 2010 = $20
So for complete drive train from pricepoint you'd be in about $170 plus your share of the shipping and tax, its flat rate I think, so teh more we spend teh less we pay each.
If you're going to re use your deraileur, then going with a shimano shifter might be the ticket, but like you say, cassettes and chains are cheaper from pricepoint, usually by a pretty good margin.
Me personally, pricepoint and SRAM are my go to solution for drive trains lol.
Do you have single front ring on the reign? can't remember now... if so, go short cage, crisper shifting, less chain slap and alround coolness factor.
lol off course an old 8 speed shimano shifter to get you going is teh cheapest. :)
looks like a pricepoint order in the next day or so.
Let me know.

Not sure its worth shipping an $80 wheel, maybe if you buy his shifter and rear X9 for another $70 :P
and get yourself a pair of these:
or these:
And Kelly mentioned she wants a pair:
lol
haha that would end up being quite the order...
I was thinking of getting these:
Nice.
Don't forget my grips that i posted above the shoe post.
eric the hub on that wheel is worth about $300. i think it's worth it. plus that shifter is 9 speed. (lol) or i could buy the camo wheels with dt swiss hubs for $350.
you gota wonder why he's selling it for $80 then.
email him and find out.
check in the hubs section under a dt swiss heading, there's someone selling the internal pieces too. with pics. cool looking pieces.
damnit... or... do I buy a set of used 440 hubs and find some rims, and have wheels built...
branden has wheel building skills.
And Ian has wheel truing skills....which i hope to exploit in the near future :)

foldable and plain "clincher" tires is what you're looking for if you were looking for tires.
