Make Peace with Inner Peace - Sunday, November 22 at High Noon!

Hi Gang,

This Sunday, November 22, I would like to take a crew in to Spider Lake to do a little work on the Inner Peace section of the trail. This line has taken a lot of abuse over the past few weeks with all the wet weather riding, and it's time we gave back to the trail for all of the good rides it has given us!

The plan is to create some drainage for the low-lying wet sections, and hopefully bring in some gravel (from a nearby secret location) to fill in these lows and reinforce them for future rides and to weather the winter months. This is one of the most pleasurable sections of the trail to ride and I think with a little help from some of us, it will last for a long time to come.

So if you're busy on Sunday but were thinking about going out for a ride, cancel it and come help us instead. You like riding here right? Then you owe it to the trail to give a little back and invest one day of riding so you can enjoy many more. And the rewards are plentiful! You will feel proud of the trail knowing that you had something to do with keeping it rideable. Of course you will also incur the undying gratitude of all riders who enjoy your newly repaired singeltrack as well. Who can put a price on that?

Time: Noon to 3pm
What to bring: Mandatory: Sturdy footwear, old clothes, WORKGLOVES, water, food
What to bring: Optional: shovel, rake (hard or grass), wheelbarrow, waterproof boots for trucking wheelbarrow through the swamp

It will be fun to get dirty together!

Hope to see you there!

This is great news to hear

The gravel/dirt from the road or the open area where the stage was works well.

The back side of the big humps have pits dug in them

and there is a pit where Skull put a detour in the Inner Piece.

A millk crate works well as a sive for getting gravel from dirt.

The best way to get gravel from the parking area up to the top is in the winter or spring when the parking area is clear and the trails have ice or snow. Then use a toboggan, stock pile the gravel in the area it will be needed.

Thanks Jimmy!

I think we have three wheelbarrows at least coming out so far, so even though it will be swampy, we'll be able to "liberate" some of the parking lot gravel and wheel it up to the Inner Peace.

ALSO - There will be a special invite for later in the afternoon extended to all who show up to help out. It involves beer, food and mountain biking movies!!!!!

I actually have a old, slightly crooked, rusting, and beaten wheelbarrow(with a pneumatic tire) that could live at Spider for maintenance. Despite its crude appearance, it still works well. I picked up a new one that could stand rigors of having firewood thrown into it.

The more the merrier! (And easier!)

The plan is to start with Inner Peace, but I was sort of hoping we would have a good turnout, so I've got contingency plans for other sections of the trail that need some love as well. THere are a number of experienced trail builders in our group so some of these folks will be leading teams to other sections as required and as manpower dictates. We want to work on the worst sections first and foremost and with good direction from these master trail elves.

For anyone that arrives a little late, just head up the fireroad to where Inner Peace crosses over (medium-sized clearing) and head in to the right. You will most likely meet some folks before you get too far. Just ask for me, Geoff Murray (AKA MurrDogg) or Tom Kavanagh (AKA Mad Skillz Kavanagh) and some one will point you int he right direction.

We're going to get a lot done in three hours!

I am wrong the best way to get gravel to the top is with a truck

Great Job Bikes Plus club!

That was one of the most productive trail days I have seen.

Beers food and MTB movies was a nice way to wind down.

Thanks Jimmy!

And Many thanks to all of the folks who showed up today to help give some love back to Inner Peace! We loaded three truckloads of gravel up to the trail and basically paved it! Many hands made for light work, and to all of you who ride this section and notice the repairs, which you definitely will, give thanks to these fine folks who laboured for your riding enjoyment! 15 people, 6 wheelbarrows, and one Toyota Tacoma made for some stellar trail building!

Also want to say thanks to all for joining us at FInbar's afterwards for dinner, drinks and movies! All in all, one of the best trail days I have ever seen!

I'm bagged, and a little tipsy, so heading to bed for some well-earned recovery sleep. Thanks again Trail Elves!
