We're here to make a difference. We're here to share trailbuilding secrets, events and news.

Snowshoeing

Looks like good weather for snoeshoe trail packing today

I am going up at 1pm if anyone is interested.

It would be good to get as much packed as possible before the rain tonight.

hopefully It will freeze up nice for riding next week.

distant early warning

i have been hearing lots of positive talk as of late about the sport in our region. it seems like it has creeped it's way into just about every sector from trail building to grassroots programs form land access to racing and related events. with several interesting projects looming on the horizon i think it is time to give a distant early warning that good things are coming our way. having seen the light at the end of the tunnel the journey becomes that much easier.

Who took the tools?

From the start of the Skull trail.

The only thing left from the stash was the pink flags

whopper sept 12th@13th

whopper trail work this coming weekend, anyone up for it? we also can discuss future ideas for spider, maybe, because i have a couple ideas jingling around in my head.

Thoughts on a new entry route to Spider?

Two weeks ago I went hiking at Spider to look for a new possible entry point, and didn't have a lot of success. I kept wandering into large deadfall sections which would be a nightmare to develop. I started to tape as I went, but realized that I needed more planning so I back-tracked and pulled the tape off as I made my way back out.

I decided to take a look on the interwebs, and try and find a better route before trying again. This is what I came up with:

Composite Map of Spider Lake

I've pulled together a few different maps to give an idea of the state of land at Spider Lake.

Others that are more in the know than me, please comment.

The black lines are the current property lines that the province uses for property tax assessments.

The light green area is crown land.

Spider in jeopardy?

i know it doesn't have anything to do with actual trail 'building' but rather trail 'destroying' which means that we'll be trail 'fixing'. i just got an email from one of the local ride groups that said essentially (i'm going from memory) "Even though we are expecting a lot of rain this week, we ride anyway, meet us at the trail head of Spider". i flipped an email back saying i didn't think it was a good idea, but giving y'all a heads up that if they choose not to listen, our flowy Spider might be a pile of ruts.

They have 20 members go out for their rides, most of them novices. :(
